Yesterday I was posing on a train going into London when I believed I’d have a look round the coach just to see what everybody was doing.  I would have liked to gain a mental note because my 5 year old son incessantly asks me ‘what went on at your work now Daddy?’ So I put my paper down and conducted a look around me. 

The chap nearest me was studying a book about dealing, the girl on the other position of the aisle was using her PC and the two men opposite me were discussing a display they had seen.  Then it struck me – everybody close to me was an ‘information customer’.  Everything they were practicing involved the consumption of information that someone else had provided. Now that should not have shocked me overly much.  In fact , that’s what I do – I sell info to folks.  But it was the train journey that prompted me how much information folks are buying.  They are fetching it from books, online, in meetings, through reports – all kinds of ways.  We are living in an information social club today. 

That means there’s a chance for you.  Whatever commercial enterprise you are in, you trade with information – and folk will ante up you for what you recognise and what you have experienced.

During the past year, the Net has gone from being just a source of referrals to my business enterprise, to being the first source of my occupation.  Last year about two percent of my revenue came from the web ; now it’s 95%.  And the exchange has been because I deliver information on the web. 

Many companies {, however ,} do not milk the giant purchaser thirst for info.  Instead, they just provide leaflets and catalogues on the internet.  But what net users want is the data and the knowledge that exists within businesses. 

So, to enhance your business concern and to make sure that your online business brings home the bacon online, make sure you offer data and knowledge-based products,eg ebooks and audio files.  That way you’ll be drumming into the consumer requirement for info.  You will be able to make money out of selling the info you typically keep just for your clients.  With the internet you can straight off sell that information to anybody.
